Dr Johann van der Merwe MB ChB 1978 University of the Free State

In private practice since 1983 (Stanger, Natal). In Stellenbosch since 1989, first in solo practice and then one of the founders of Stelkor in 1997.

Course in Travel Medicine and Senior Flight Medical Examiner (MS088).

Special Interests: Travel Medicine, Flying medicine, Orthopaedics, Sports Medicine and Asthma.

Hobbies: active private pilot and member of Stellenbosch Flying Club since 1993. Active mountain biker and road biker in the summer. Motorcycle rider and enthusiast. Outdoors, travel, "hiking", and mountaineering.

Special Interests: I follow an integrative, holistic approach, with the aim to improving your health especially with regard to chronic lifestyle illnesses like diabetes mellitus, hypertension and weight, as well as allergies, outo-immune illnesses and mental health.

Hobbies: Classical music, sports and art.

Our old partner once saw a patient, then went to fetch her medicine, but went to Checkers and bought food instead. On his return, he saw the patient still sitting in his office and asked her, "Madam, what are you waiting for?". She replied: "For my medicine doctor". We had a good laugh afterwards - but I realize today, that should it happen to me, it will be time to hang up my stethoscope!

My father (35 years GP in Evander, Mpumalanga) told our three children many times: "Let one of you become a lawyer, one an accountant and one an engineer, then we can all help each other with anything ". His actions, however, spoke louder than his words, because today we are all doctors! (Dr Tinus van Zijl, my brother).

Dr Frieda Esterhuyse

My mother Annemarie chased me out of her math class because I talk too much and it has not ever changed! My father, Willie, worked for some time at the Department of Philosophy at the University of Stellenbosch.
